  • Great utilty item. Far exceeds expectations. This machete is well worth the dollars spent on it. I have read reviews stating it does not come sharpened but I find the utilty edge out of the box pretty acceptable. It is afterall meant for utility cutting chopping and clearing. If a sharper edge is desired you can easily do it. Just bear in mind if you make it super sharp you risk edge damage if you use it as intended. Most machetes are made from a milder steel and just wont hold a sharp edge if you then use it as a garden tool. Run a file over it if you want. If you hone it down perfect it will dull and possibly dent the fine edge.In my mind you have to decide.
Excellent machete for the price. This is an excellent and high quality machete at an excellent price.Pros handle is very comfortable for long term use. Rubber handle makes for good grip while swinging. Absorbs shock extremely well far superior to hard plastic handles. spring steel blade with good thickness. Durable and holds a good edge. arrived with a decent edge on the blade. Pocket sharpener honed to a nice edge in just a few minutes. balance is superb. Makes for very easy swing with great momentum at point of impact. new sheath is perfectly acceptable. Sure it's not the highest quality however it holds well and the plastic guard on the end makes for a good solid sheath.Cons arrived with a sticker on the blade that had to be removed with WD40. Kind of annoying blade is painted and not blued finish will not hold up to much abuse.Overall a great tool at a great price. Not perfect by any means yet for this price you really cannot do better.
4 Stars because of extras/work you have to buy/put in
Seems to be well made. Seems to be well made but the edge on it is poorly done and Yes I know about edges on machetes. Up until some ahole stole it I had one that my dad used in the Military. There are a lot of burs. I will be able to clean that edge but I guess I expected more. Love the shape and the sheath and grip are well made. The steel seem really good and the price is right. I also love that it's not made in China. I would recommend this to another prepper.
GOOD BLADE Very happy with the weight/feel of the blade. Obviously it is front end heavy however that is what gives you the added power from the blade. It will need to be sharpened and if you're not familiar with techniques or don't have the tools take it to a blade sharpening store for the first edge. After the initial edge is on upkeep is allot easier with the right tool. Saw the one buyers note regarding the handle and yes if you're doing hard work with hand tools wear gloves! Good bang for the buck and should take a zombie head off in one or two whacks.
This thing is great Solid sharp and attractive. That's how I would describe this machete. I cut down small hanging limbs and vines now with a nice TING and a clean cut. Works well as a small limb chopper too. Don't think the case is anything extraordinary but I wouldn't say it is worthless either. For the price this thing is great.
awesome machete This machete is for lack of better description BA.Literally.I've chopped down 68 diameter trees in less than 20 minutes with a low swing range.Very good item although after a bit of swinging your hand gets raw where the end of the handle rubs.Nice when sharpened as well. Also kind of scary.
review I purchased the cold steel magnum kukri because I thought that it would be a great alternative to the vast majority of other machetes available on the market. Other machetes out there seemed to me to be flimsy and of poorer quality due to their lower grade steel and thinness. I liked the fact that this machete was thicker than most and was made from high grade steel for these features are indicative of a hearty and long lasting blade which will hold an edge. I wanted a tool that would endure great amounts of abuse and the kukri design in general is ideal for chopping pretty much anything. So the fact that there exists a kukri which is 17 inches long is an extremely attractive solution for me to an array of wilderness problems. Here's the thing when I got it I wasn't prepared for the fact that it was not prepared for immediate use. The blade was extremely dull out of the box and had virtually no angle to it. I did a cursory sharpening job making the blade sharp but not putting on the gradual edge 20 degrees experience has shown me to work well. I was sorely let down. I have butter knives that cut better than this blade did and that is after twenty minutes of sharpening with a file and a sharpening stone. Not willing to accept that it was a waste of money I have spent approximately five hours putting a twenty degree angle on the blade an inch back using first a grinder then an ax file and then a course sharpening stone and then a fine sharpening stone. I am belated to report that once the work was put in on reprofiling the blade edge I am seeing results that resemble what I expected to see out of the box.
dissatisfaction First off the blade looks like it was spray painted in someones garage it was Dull and chipped I could not be more disappointed this is going back asap.
Good tool Good tool.I use it to clear brush and small trees.Comes with a good utility edge.Small handleI lost my grip more than once put a wrist lanyard on it.
